Super J IGA Rolls out the Yoplait Breast Cancer Awareness Programme

For the fourth consecutive year, Super J IGA is  presenting the Yoplait Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. This is one of the largest fund-raising efforts for Cancer in St. Lucia and is designed to bring awareness to and raise funds to support Breast Cancer causes in Saint Lucia.

Over the decade, this disease has struck fear in the hearts of many individuals. Many Saint Lucians have either been touched by it, or know someone who has succumbed to the disease. However, many strides have been made globally and locally in creating awareness of the disease, helping persons to recognize the early warning signs, and encouraging testing and treatment. The Yoplait Campaign is a direct contributor to these efforts.

Sancha Raggie, Marketing Manager of Super J IGA, explains the campaign as a two-fold one. She says special packaging of Yoplait Yogurts will be available to create the visual partnership with the cause.

“We have the Yoplait Save Lids to Save Lives Campaign and the Yoplait Walk for Cancer. With every Yoplait cup with a Pink Lid purchased from October 1 to November 16th, Yoplait, Super J IGA and other leading supermarkets will donate cents to Cancer causes in Saint Lucia. The other aspect of the campaign is the Yoplait Walk for Cancer, slated for Sunday November 6th”, Raggie explained.

Since 2008, over EC $60,000 has been raised and donated directly to this cause. This year, Super J IGA has canvassed a high degree of private sector involvement in the walk through financial sponsorship and company employee volunteerism.

Martin Dorville, Deputy Managing Director, acknowledged the tremendous input of Sunfresh, (bottlers of People’s Choice Water), Choice TV and Hunts (CFL suppliers of Tomatoes products) for their critical partnership, which he notes will help to minimize expenses related to the walk.

“This way we can put so much more into the fund-raising aspects and ultimately give much more to the Cause that we as businesses have pledged to support,” he said.

An interesting feature of the 2011 Yoplait Walk for Cancer will be corporate employee volunteerism for Cancer.  As the large group of Saint Lucians who will be walking the Mega J to Pigeon Island route approach the various waterstops they will be greeted by teams representing Excel Signs, Lucelec, Super J supermarkets, Bank of Saint Lucia, LIME and the JQ Charles Group of companies. These companies will be fielding teams to assist with waterstops and clean-up after the walk.

All monies raised through the 2011 Yoplait Cancer Campaign will be donated to the National Community Foundation (NCF) for ensuring that women in Saint Lucia who are affected by Breast Cancer can be assisted in some way with treatment. Reach to Recovery and Faces of Cancer, two local Cancer support groups will also receive Super J IGA support for various aspects of their programmes.

The Yoplait brand has been involved in the fight against Breast Cancer internationally for the past 13 years. While a cure is the ultimate victory, every dollar raised from these two activities means more resources to bring hope to those who are affected by the disease. Super J IGA is therefore pleased to present this campaign in Saint Lucia and is thanking all Saint Lucians in advance for helping to make this a reality.
